Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Uganda The Pearl of Africa

Your driver/guide will be at Entebbe Airport to pick you up from your flight and take you directly to your booked hotel in Kampala. Depending on the time of your arrival, you may be able to explore the tourist sites in and around Kampala. Activities today are at your own cost.

Activities on this day may include visiting the Uganda Museum, The Kabakas Palace, The Royal Kasubi Tombs, the famous St Balikudembe Market, Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine, Ndere Center and so many others and the choice of the place to visit will and yours. Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Today you will drive to Fort Portal in western Uganda. The route is incredibly scenic, passing through tea plantations and the lush green countryside which characterizes so much of Uganda.

Then you continue for about 1 hour. On arrival at the forest, you will enter a completely different world… some serious monkey business! Although you are here specifically to track Chimps, the forest is home to 12 other primate species including: The Red Tailed Monkey, Olive Baboon, Black and White Colobus Monkey, and the Blue Monkey. Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking – Queen Elizabeth national park

Early in the morning you will go for chimpanzee trekking. Kibale Forest National Park boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including our delightful cousins, the chimpanzees. An experienced forest ranger will take you chimp tracking in the morning or afternoon. You might also see other monkey species that live in this tropical forest. Once located, you will spend a full hour with the chimps. Since they are still wild animals, we can never guarantee you to see them and might have to settle with hearing their hoots and hollers.

After this amazing experience you will continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda’s second largest park, located at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. The park has prolific game, including Gazelle, Uganda Kob, Warthog and Waterbuck. Lions are often sighted both in the park and at the entrance to the park. Day 4: Game drive & Boat safari on the Kazinga channel

Wake up for a cup of tea or coffee and then after proceed to the Savannah area of the park kasenyi to do morning game drive to catch-up with early animals rushing from their hideouts, games expected to see include lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, water bucks, jackals among others. The activity lasts 3 – 4 hours after which you return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

After lunch embark on a 2 hours’ launch cruise on the Kazinga channel that connects Lakes Edward and George, the launch cruise gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close like schools of hippos, just feet away from the boat, buffaloes linger in the shallows as well as elephant. The shores are also home to various species of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and may others, after drive slowly back to the lodge. Day 5: Ishasha Sector – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Have breakfast then set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park – famously known for its resident tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are really hard to spot (most especially when they’re down in the grassland looking for prey). Hoping you get the chance to spot them, the sight will be spectacular!

Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is a big habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda (harboring an estimated 400 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population) including several habituated groups, which can be tracked. With a strenuous day ahead, you will do less on arrival but just check in your accommodation, relax as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking experience the following day. Day 6: Gorilla trekking Bwindi and Batwa Trail Safari

Encountering the rare and endangered Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is an experience of a lifetime. Half of the world’s population of gorillas live under the mist-covered canopies of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest. In the company of an experienced park ranger you will be tracking the whereabouts of one of the nine habituated family groups who live in the park. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Once the family of gorillas has been located, settle in to your surroundings and enjoy the hour you have to quietly observe these fascinating primates whose habits and mannerisms remind us so much of our own.

Day 7: Transfer back to Lake Mburo National Park for evening game drive

Have breakfast and set off to Lake Mburo NP. Drive past the intensely terraced Kigezi hills into Mbarara town and finally Lake Mburo NP. Reach early in the afternoon, take some rest and lunch before proceeding for the late afternoon (evening) game drive. On this drive look out for hyenas, at a close range see Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi, Antelopes, Cape buffaloes, warthogs, Uganda kob, Impalas, Topis among others. Day 8: Lake Mburo Nature walk and Transfer back to Entebbe airport

Enjoy your early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo morniing nature walk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger/guide. On this early morning guided walk, you often encounter hyenas that are returning to their dens after a night of being on the prowl. Also, you will have the opportunity to encounter (at close range) Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi, Antelopes, Cape buffaloes, warthogs, Uganda kob, Impalas, Topis among others. Take the Trail to the top of the hills and see Lake Mburo and beyond. From this vantage point, you will have a great view of 9 of the twelve salt lakes surrounding Lake Mburo NP.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

Today, after an early breakfast, you will be travelling to the first national park of this trip: Lake Manyara National Park. On arrival you will stretch your legs during a 2 to 3-hour village walk in cozy ‘Mto Wa Mbu’. Here you will meet the local community, taste homemade banana beer, learn about the Makonde woodcarvings and listen to your guide who will tell you everything about the way of living in this village. After the village walk, you will have a local lunch.

In the afternoon you enter Lake Manyara National Park. This is a small but very beautiful park offering breathtaking views, excellent game viewing and an incredible array of birdlife. You have a chance to spot zebra, baboon, warthog, giraffe, impala, elephant, hippo, wildebeest and the rare tree climbing lion. Retire to your accommodation for overnight stay. Day 10: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you depart for the most famous safari park in the world, Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti National Park hosts the most extensive population of wild animals on earth and has a complex and untouched ecosystem. Serengeti means “endless plains” in the language of the Maasai, a description that the Serengeti completely lives up to. These endless plains have to be experienced to be fully appreciated!

You visit the heart of the Serengeti, Seronera Valley. Day 11: Game drives in the Serengeti National Park

Early in the morning you leave the camp for a full day safari! Most of the national park is open and grassy. Ultimately, the success of any safari lies in the number and quality of encounters with big cats. There are thousands of lions in the Serengeti and you have a fair chance to see cheetahs, although they are difficult to spot. And when it comes to leopards, the Serengeti rarely disappoints!

Keep your eyes open since you still have chances to see all kinds of animals roaming the plains, hidden behind bushes or resting in a tree. You never know when and where exactly you will spot wildlife.

Day 12: Serengeti National Park-Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today you enjoy a long game drive on your way out of the beautiful Serengeti and continue to the Ngorongoro Crater. In the afternoon, you will have a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater!

As an UNESCO World Heritage Site the crater offers a unique biosphere which has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. There are very few places in the world where you can find such a large population of wildlife throughout the year. Deep within the crater, enclosed by towering walls, you have a good chance of spotting ‘The Big 5’: Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. For the latter two you need a bit of luck as they tend to shy away. Approximately 30 000 animals live on the crater floor!
